Lysianne Proulx, one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in Syracuse's soccer history, has been named to Canada's FIFA World Cup roster for the 2023 competition.
Proulx spent five seasons at Syracuse and accumulated 52 games played, a 2.29 goals-against-average, a .721 save percentage and eight shutouts. She led the squad in saves in 2019 (83), 2020 (73) and 2021 (96). Proulx owns three of the top six single-game save totals, posting 15 against Duke in 2021 and 14 versus North Carolina (2020) and Boston College (2020). Proulx ranks second in career saves per game (5.3) and fourth in career saves (281) at Syracuse.
In addition to her training with Team Canada, Proulx has played for Torrense in Portugal. She has been a part of Canada's team for each training camp dating back to June 2022.
Canada is one of 32 countries represented in the World Cup, which is hosted this year by Australia and New Zealand. The teams have been split into eight groups for pool play, which begins July 20. Canada is part of Group B, which also includes Australia, Ireland and Nigeria. The top two finishers in each group will advance to a 16-team bracket for knockout rounds.
Canada is ranked seventh heading into the tournament and is the reigning Olympic gold-medal winning squad. This will be Canada's eighth straight appearance in the World Cup.
