Host Delaware (1-0) scored just over six minutes into the contest and held off Syracuse (0-1) the rest of the way in a 1-0 decision at Grant Stadium in Newark, Del., on Thursday.
Delaware's Raychel Speicher found the net after a pass from Lea Panagiotidis to give the Blue Hens the victory.
ORANGE THREATS
The Blue Hens limited Syracuse's chances to three shots on goal. Despite falling behind early, Syracuse pressed Delaware the remainder of the contest. Redshirt freshman Erin Flurey and sophomore Grace Gillard led the Orange with two shots each. Both of Gillard's attempts were on net.
Flurey made a great individual move to shake a defender and put forth a left-footed shot at the 54:11 mark, but the attempt rolled just outside the far post.
VANDERBOSCHÂ TENDS GOAL
Sophomore Shea Vanderbosch played the full game as goalkeeper for the Orange. She finished with five saves, each which came in the second half.
NOTABLE NOTES:
Syracuse faces its second consecutive road tilt when it plays at Siena on Sunday, August 20. Game time at Siena Field in Loudonville is 1:00 p.m..
