Orange Battle Stags to 0-0 Draw
9/10/2023 6:47:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Syracuse (2-5-1), despite competing down a player for the final 38 minutes because of a red card, held off host Fairfield (2-3-2) and earned a 0-0 draw on Sept. 10.
The opening kickoff was delayed four hours because of lightning and heavy rain in the Fairfield, Conn., area.
The Orange completed the non-conference portion of their 2023 schedule with a gritty effort on the road.
ORANGE ATTACK EARLY
Syracuse threatened Fairfield early in the contest. Junior Kendyl Lauher carried the ball deep on the right side before crossing the ball to redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey. It earned Flurey a solid chance that was stopped by Fairfield keeper Katie Wright.
SHEA SAVES
Sophomore goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch helped keep the Stags scoreless with her second shutout of the season. Vanderbosch made five save in the draw, including the stop of a point-blank attempt from Maddy Theriault around 15:11 into the opening half.Â
Three of Vanderbosch's five saves came after the intermission.
NOTABLE NOTES:
Syracuse finishes its string of five straight matches away from home when it plays at Miami on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m. It will be the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opener for both teams.
