WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 7 Syracuse travels to North Carolina for the first time this season as it opens its ACC road slate on Saturday, Sept. 16, at No. 20 Wake Forest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ACC Network Extra).
Saturday will mark 'Cuse's third top-20 match of the year. The Orange previously played at No. 20 Penn State and at home against No. 7 Louisville, with both matches ending in a draw.
Tuesday's match versus Siena was called in the 56th minute due to continued precipitation and poor field conditions and will not be resumed. With the game not achieving at least 70 minutes of play, the match was declared a no contest.
'Cuse Update
In its last official match, Syracuse extended its unbeaten streak to 19 games after playing to a 2-2 draw against No. 7 Louisville on Friday, Sept. 8.
Â
Senior Lorenzo Boselli registered his fourth goal of the season at the 11:30 mark.
Â
Junior Mateo Leveque scored his first goal in an Orange kit at 32:46 off a Cardinal turnover. Senior Jeorgio Kocevski and graduate student Noah Singelmann recorded assists on the tally.
Â
The Cardinals netted the equalizer on a corner in the 89th minute when Gage Guerra found the back of the net for the second time in the match.
Â
'Cuse outshot Louisville, 19-8, including a 12-2 advantage in the first 45 minutes of play.
Â
Boselli's A Threat
Boselli found the back of the net for the fourth time this year on the team's first penalty kick opportunity of the campaign.
Â
Boselli has already surpassed his 2022 goal total through five matches. Last year, the midfielder had three goals and four assists in 25 contests.
Â
Last Friday's tally against Louisville was Boselli's first penalty kick attempt in regulation time at Syracuse.
Â
In two career games versus the Cardinals, Boselli has a goal and assist to his name.
Â
Scouting the Demon Deacon
Bobby Muuss is in his ninth season leading the Wake Forest men's soccer program. The Demon Deacon are off to a 3-1-2 start through their first six matches in 2023, most recently earning a 4-0 victory over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday.
Â
In the team's lone ACC contest this year, Wake Forest fell, 3-0, to Pittsburgh in the Steel City.
Â
Roald Mitchell leads the Demon Deacon with five goals and 11 points, which is good for second in the conference in both categories. Mitchell's 3.17 shots-per-game are also tied for the second-most amongst ACC players.
Â
Series History
Saturday's contest will be the 11th all-time meeting between the Orange and Demon Deacon. Wake Forest holds a 5-3-2 edge in the series.
Â
In 2022, No. 7 Syracuse shut out No. 4 Wake Forest at home on Oct. 7, outshooting the visitors, 18-10.
Â
Jeorgio Kocevski opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a penalty kick before an own goal ten minutes later doubled the score for the Orange.
Â
The win gave 'Cuse its second top-5 victory of the 2022 campaign, the first time in head coach Ian McIntyre's tenure that the Orange defeated multiple top-5 opponents in the same season.
