Quarterback Garrett Shrader has been named a Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 selection for his record-breaking performance in the win over Purdue.
Shrader set a new program record for rushing TDs by a quarterback, scoring four times in the win. He also carried the ball for 195 yards, the highest total by a quarterback in the FBS this season (third highest overall) and second-highest total by a Syracuse quarterback ever.
Shrader now owns two of the top-20 rushing performances by an ACC quarterback in league history.
He also threw for 184 yards through the air, bringing his total offense number to nearly 400 yards, in a game the Orange won 35-20 at the defending Big Ten West division champions.
The quarterbacks on this week's list are Brady Cook of Missouri, LSU's Jayden Daniels, Dillon Gabriel of Oklahoma, Georgia State's Darren Grainger, Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, Liberty's Kaidon Salter, Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Syracuse's Garrett Shrader. The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week, selected from the Great 8 list, will be announced Tuesday at Noon (ET).
Shrader is already on the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List for the season.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O'Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life. The eight selections each week represent O'Brien's No. 8 that he wore at TCU before being the first Heisman Trophy winner in 1938.
Shrader and the Orange have back-to-back games upcoming in the JMA Dome. Tickets are available on Cuse.com/Tickets. Both Partial plans and individual game tickets are now on sale. Fans can also purchase group tickets, hospitality packages and tailgate packages.
