Depth Shines Through In Opening Win

It was a team effort as Syracuse routed Colgate 65-0 on Saturday.
Despite shutting out the Raiders and setting new program records with 677 yards of total offense and seven passing touchdowns, not a single member of the team recorded double-digit tackles and eight different players found the end zone.
It was Syracuse's depth that showed through in the opener.
Offensively, starting quarterback Garrett Shrader and backup Carlos Del Rio-Wilson took the bulk of the snaps. Shrader was an efficient 18-of-24 for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Del Rio-Wilson completed 10-of-13 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns.
The passing game was spread around with 10 different players catching a pass – including a game-high six receptions by tight end Oronde Gadsden II - and six different receivers catching a touchdown pass. Isaiah Jones was the only player to catch multiple touchdown passes, scoring on two of his three catches, as part of a 71-yard day. Umari Hatcher led the team in yardage, catching four passes for 105 yards and a score. Kendall Long and Darrell Gill Jr. scored their first collegiate touchdowns, while Damien Alford added another.
"This doesn't happen a lot in college football, where you get to play your entire team pretty much," said head coach Dino Babers. "It's not intramurals where you get to play everyone. But we did get an opportunity to play a lot of guys and it's always fun. But now, they need to get back into the weight room and get back on the football field and take that early success and turn it into something meaningful – a career that people can talk about."
Nine different players recorded a rush In the win as well, led by starting running back LeQuint Allen Jr., who ran for 107 yards on 16 carries and notched the game's first touchdown. Ike Daniels had 11 carries for 63 yards in his first collegiate action. The Orange ran for 271 yards on the day as a unit.
Defensively, Alijah Clark and Derek McDonald led the team with seven tackles apiece. The team held the Raiders from crossing the 50 until the final drive of regulation and limited them to 106 yards of total offense. Jeremiah Wilson and Greg Delaine each had their first collegiate interceptions, headlined by Wilson returning his 34 yards to the house for another score.
The Orange are back in action on Saturday vs. Western Michigan in the Loud House. Season tickets, partial plans and individual game tickets are now on sale at Cuse.com/Tickets. Season tickets, which start at just $99, remain the best value for Orange fans. Fans can also purchase group tickets, hospitality packages and tailgate packages.
