Orange Welcome Tigers on Alzheimer's Awareness Day
1/13/2024 7:38:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The 13-2 Syracuse women's basketball team returns to the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday when the Orange host Clemson (8-9, 1-4 ACC) at 2 p.m. History is in the forecast as Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair needs just 14 points to become the 26th player in Division I basketball to reach 3,000 career points.Â
'Cuse is 9-0 at home this season and has won 13-straight home games entering Sunday's tilt with the Tigers. Fans attending are encouraged to wear purple, the color that represents Alzheimer's awareness. The coaching staff will be wearing purple ribbons in support of those effected by the disease which directly touches the Orange program and for continued research.Â
Fair would become the 16th women's player to record 3,000 points in her career. Only 10 men's players have done so. The 5-foot-5 guard from Rochester, N.Y., scored 2,035 points at Buffalo from 2019-22 before joining the Orange prior to last season. Fair has scored 951 points while with the Orange and is on pace to become the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 points.Â
Tickets for Sunday's game against Clemson can be purchased online by visiting cuse.com/tickets, by calling the JMA Wireless Dome Box Office (888-DOME-TIX), or at the Box Office on game day. Gates open at 1 p.m.Â
Fans unable to attend can watch live on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX), with Griffin Della Penna (play-by-play) and Kalia Butler (analyst) on the call, online or via the ESPN app.Â
Syracuse is coming off back-to-back ACC wins against Boston College and at Wake Forest. The Orange are 3-1 in the ACC and are 11-2 all-time against the Tigers entering Sunday. SU has won three of the last five meetings and is 5-0 at home against Clemson. In last year's meeting, Syracuse defeated Clemson, 91-77, behind a 27-point performance by Fair.Â
Clemson is 1-4 in the ACC and enters Sunday on a three-game losing streak. All four of Clemson's ACC losses have been decided by single digits. Clemson's last win over Syracuse was in the 2022 ACC Tournament, it was the last game Syracuse played before Felisha Legette-Jack was named the next Orange head coach. The Tigers have three players in double figures, Amari Robinson (17.1 ppg), Ruby Whitehorn (11.8 ppg), and Pittsburgh grad transfer Dayshanette Harris (11.3 ppg).Â
Following Sunday's game, the Orange will host top-25 opponent Florida State on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.Â
