CLEMSON, S.C. - Syracuse men's soccer (6-5-3, 1-3-2 ACC) will play its penultimate regular season contest at No. 3 Clemson (9-2-2, 4-2-0 ACC) on Friday, Oct. 25. The match, which kicks off at 8 p.m., is the Orange's second nationally broadcast match of the slate on ACC Network.

Friday night's game will feature a battle of the previous two national champions. The Orange defeated Indiana, 2-2 (7-6 PKs) to win the 2022 NCAA Tournament, while Clemson topped Notre Dame. 2-1, in the 2023 National Championship.

'Cuse Update
Syracuse fell to Virginia, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va. The Cavaliers took an early two-goal lead in the first 16 minutes of the contest, before adding a third score in the second half to top the Orange. Despite the loss, 'Cuse edged UVA in corners, 3-1, and shots on goal, 7-6.

'Cuse' freshman Chimere Omeze was named to TopDrawerSoccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list at No. 27, as announced by the organization on Monday, Oct. 21. A native of Brampton, Ontario, Omeze has had a strong opening campaign with the Orange, starting in each of the 13 matches he has competed in. He has also tallied three goals, including two game-winning scores against Colgate (Aug. 22) and Providence (Oct. 8).

The Orange have had their goals come in a variety of ways this season, as 14 different players have found the back of the net on SU's 21 total goals this campaign. Gabe Threadgold, Chimere Omeze, and Daniel Burko lead Syracuse with three goals apiece this season.

Scouting the Tigers
No. 3 Clemson has had a strong 2024 campaign after its NCAA title in 2023. The team is 9-2-2 through 13 contests, including four ACC wins over Boston College (Sept. 13), Wake Forest (Sept. 20), North Carolina (Oct. 4), and Louisville (Oct. 11).

Most recently, the Tigers hosted non-conference foe, Upstate, on Tuesday, Oct. 22, defeating the Spartans, 6-0. In the victory Clemson scored four goals in seven minutes and used a five-goal second half to shut out the opposition.

Clemson's offense ranks among the best in the country in a number of stat categories. The Tigers's are fourth in the nation in scoring offense at 2.69, fifth in total goals with 35, and sixth in points per contest with 7.31. They have also had success in outscoring their competition, with the nation's sixth-best goal differential at 20.

No. 3 Clemson will be the highest-ranked opponent that the Orange have faced this season. SU's lone ranked match up this season came against Virginia Tech (Sept. 13), who was tabbed the 17th-best team in the country at the time.

Friday's contest will be the 17th all-time match between the Orange and Tigers, with SU holding a narrow 6-5 advantage in wins. The programs have also played to five draws, including a 1-1 result a season ago in Central New York.

The last time Syracuse took a trip to Clemson, the Orange came away with a huge 2-1 victory, beating the Tigers when they were the No. 1 team in the country on Sept. 16, 2022. After Clemson got on the board early with an 8th-minute goal, Jeorgio Kocevski and Levonte Johnson net goals to earn a comeback victory.

SU is riding a four-match unbeaten streak against Clemson. The last time 'Cuse dropped a game to the Tigers was on March 7, 2021.
