SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse men's soccer (6-6-3, 1-4-2 ACC) will play its final match of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 1 against No. 3 Pittsburgh (12-3-0, 6-1-0 ACC) for the program's Senior Night. The game is slated for 7 p.m. and will be live on ACC Network Extra. Admission and parking are free for all in attendance.
Friday's match will mark the second-consecutive contest that SU will take on the third-ranked team in the country. The Orange are coming off a 6-1 loss at Clemson (Oct. 25), who was ranked No. 3 at the time of the match. The Panthers will also be the third-ranked opponent of the season for Syracuse.
Prior to the game, the Orange will celebrate their 11 seniors and graduate students with a brief ceremony. Players slated to be honored include Jason Smith, Andre Cutler-DeJesus, Sam Layton, Elton Chifamba, Ernest Bawa, Ben Rosenblatt, Michal Gradus, Giona Leibold, Daniel Burko, Gabe Threadgold, and Tomas Hut.
'Cuse Update
Syracuse dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 3 Clemson in its final road game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 25, at Historic Riggs Field. Ezra Widman scored his second goal of the slate in the loss. The sophomore was fouled in the box and converted the penalty kick to put the Orange on the board.
The Orange have had their goals come in a variety of ways this season, as 14 different players have found the back of the net on SU's 22 total goals this campaign. Gabe Threadgold, Chimere Omeze, and Daniel Burko lead Syracuse with three goals apiece.
Syracuse is currently tied with California for 11th place in the ACC standings. The Orange have five points and a 1-4-2 record through their seven conference matches. SU and Cal sit above Virginia Tech, Louisville, and Boston College in the ranks.
Scouting the Panthers
No. 3 Pittsburgh has had an impressive season, playing to a 12-3-0 record through 15 matches, including a 6-1-0 mark in ACC play. The Panthers are also a perfect 5-0 against fellow ranked teams, earning victories over No. 16 Georgetown (Aug. 22), No. 22 SMU (Sept. 7), No. 17 Virginia Tech (Sept. 28), No. 6 Denver (Oct. 7), and No. 7 North Carolina (Oct. 19).
The Panthers are coming off a 4-1 win over Virginia on Friday, Oct. 25. The win clinched them at least a share of the ACC regular season crown with the opportunity to earn the title outright against the Orange.
Pitt is at or near the top of the ACC in several stat categories. The Panthers lead the conference in save percentage (0.778) and goals against average (0.667). They are also second in total assists (37), assists per game (2.47), corner kicks per game (6.53), and goal differential (+26).
Series History
Friday's contest will be the 27th all-time match between the Orange and the Panthers in a series that dates to the 1985 BIG EAST Tournament. Pitt owns a slight edge in wins in the series with its 11 compared to SU's 10. The teams have also played to five draws.
The two teams last faced off a season ago in 2023, with 'Cuse earning a 3-2 victory at home. Lorenzo Boselli, Gavin Wigg, and Jeorgio Kocevski net goals in the victory.
