Don't miss the historic moment Kayla Alexander '13 has her Syracuse women's basketball jersey retired a the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday, Dec. 8. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the Syracuse vs. #10 Notre Dame game. Tip-off is slated for noon on ACC Network with Pam Ward and Carolyn Peck on the call. The first 1,000 fans inside the JMA Wireless Dome will receive a Kayla Alexander jersey retirement replica rally towel.Â

Alexander, one of the most influential players in program history, led the Orange to new heights during her career from 2009-13. She guided Syracuse to four-straight postseason appearances including an NCAA Tournament berth in 2013 as a senior. She finished her career as the program's leader in points and is the only player to score over 2,000 points at Syracuse. At the time of her graduation, she held program records in points (2,024), games played (140), blocks (350), and field goals made (736) while ranking second in rebounds (970) and blocks per game (2.5). She was a two-time All-BIG EAST first team selection in 2011 and 2013 and earned second team honors in 2012. As a freshman, Alexander earned BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honors.Â
The Milton, Ontario, Canada native was an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention in 2013 becoming the fourth all-American in program history behind Kim Dick, current Syracuse head coach Felisha Legette-Jack and Nicole Michael. During her senior season she set program records in single-season points (771) and field goals made (211) further convincing WNBA teams she had a bright pro career ahead of her.Â
At the conclusion of her Syracuse career, Alexander became the first-ever WNBA First Round Draft Pick when she was selected eighth overall by the San Antonio Silver Stars in 2013 where she played until 2017 when the team relocated to Las Vegas as the Las Vegas Aces. Alexander also made stops with the Indiana Fever (2017), Chicago Sky (2018), and Minnesota Lynx (2020). She played 203 games during her WNBA career shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 76.3 percent from the free throw line.Â
Alexander has played professionally overseas since 2015 making stops in France, Australia, Poland, Belgium, and currently Spain where she's in the middle of her season with Valencia Basket Club. In 2022 she was the FIBA Europe SuperCup Women MVP and last spring she earned Coupe de France MVP honors.Â
A two-time Olympian with Canada Basketball at the Tokyo (2020) and Paris (2024) Summer Olympics, Alexander also earned silver (Leon, 2023) and bronze (Puerto Rico, 2019) with Canada at the FIBA AmeriCup.Â
Outside of basketball, Alexander is an accomplished author and entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of Tall Size a clothing and lifestyle brand dedicated to women.Â
