Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley recorded a shutout in her 100th career intercollegiate game leading Syracuse to a 3-0 win against RIT at the Upstate University Medical Arena at the Oncenter on Saturday. Kelley had 33 saves in the game, increasing her season total to 1,090.
Â
"For Allie to get a shutout in her 100th game was extra special," said head coach Britni Smith. "When we had the timeout with just more than a minute to play our conversation was anything to keep the puck out of the net we needed to do. At that point we were playing for AK and everything she has given us all year."
Â
Late in the second period forward Charlotte Hallett scored the game-winner firing a shot past RIT goaltender Sophia Bellina with 24 seconds remaining. Â Forwards Darci Johal and Sarah Thompson cemented the win with empty net goals in the final two minutes of the game. Johal entered the 50-Point Club with her tally. She has 28 goals and 22 assist in her collegiate career.
Â
The Orange blocked 16 shots, including three by Rachel Teslak and two from both Marielle McHale and Kambel Beacom. Syracuse posted 40 blocked shots in the series against RIT, increasing the season total to 439, which ranks fourth in Syracuse history.
Â
Syracuse's partnership with the Syracuse Crunch started in 2008-09, the first year of the Orange ice hockey program. The game against RIT is part of a Syracuse-Rochester doubleheader on 'Women in Sports' day. The game against RIT will be the 14th for the Orange on the Crunch home ice since Syracuse began the ice hockey program in 2008-09, including an exhibition game against the Minnesota Whitecaps, a professional hockey team that competed in the Western Women's Hockey League (2004 to 2011) and the National Women's Hockey League, which became the Premier Hockey Federation (2015 through 2023). Syracuse last played on the home ice of the Crunch in 2019-20 against St. Lawrence.
Â
"We are really grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Syracuse Crunch," Smith said. "(Crunch COO) Jim Sarosy and his team have been great from day one creating a connection with our program and to use each other as a resource. To be able to play in a facility like this is really special. We are excited to get the win and look forward to continuing to build this relationship."
