CONWAY, S.C. – Syracuse scored multiple runs in all four offensive frames as the Orange (2-1) beat Campbell (0-2), 13-3, in a five-inning mercy rule victory Saturday morning at St. John Stadium in Conway, S.C.
Â
Outfielders Angel Jasso and Taylor Posner both drove in four runs for an Orange offense that collected 10 hits in 23 at bats. The duo combined for five hits, six runs scored and eight RBI, while recording all three of Syracuse's extra-base hits in the win.
Â
Sophomore Julianna Verni earned her first victory in an Orange uniform, tossing four innings in the circle. After allowing three runs in the sixth without recording an out, fellow second year hurler Madison Knight entered the ballgame and set down all three runners she faced to hinder a potential Campbell comeback.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Syracuse's offense came out swinging from the start, putting up three runs in the first and second innings, four in the third and three more insurance markers in the fourth.
Â
Jasso tripled down the right field line to plate freshman Makenzie Foster before coming around to score on a Campbell fielding error.
Â
Leading 3-0, Jasso drove in a pair in the second on a single to right, later scoring her second run in as many innings on Posner's two bagger.
Â
Continuing her hot day at the plate the very next frame, Jasso knocked in her fourth run of the contest with a single to make it a 7-0 ballgame. Posner gave Syracuse double digits on the scoreboard with a three-run homer over the left field wall.
Â
The Orange tacked on three runs in the home half of the fourth on a single from sophomore Madelyn Lopez, sacrifice fly from graduate student Rebecca Clyde and pinch-hit single from sophomore Vanessa Flores
Â
Campbell looked to mount a comeback in the fifth, stringing together three runs on back-to-back hits, but Knight silenced the Camel bats to secure the mercy-rule win.

UP NEXT:Â
Syracuse concludes the Kickin' Chicken Classic with a pair of games on Sunday, Feb. 11. The Orange play George Washington at 11:15 a.m., followed by a rematch against Campbell at 1:30 p.m.
