Dyaisha Fair is one of the most dynamic players in women's college basketball. She is the real deal, and national outlets are taking notice.
This week, the fifth-year guard has the spotlight shining on her and her Orange teammates after a 2-0 week at home with wins over Georgia Tech and No. 15 Louisville. She was tabbed Naismith Player of the Week and ESPN Player of the Week on Monday and followed up Tuesday as one of the USBWA's National Players of the Week.
She was also was selected as one of 30 women's basketball players named to the 2024 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team.
When the Rochester, N.Y., native decided to follow her head coach to Syracuse in the spring of 2022 speculation began if the 5-foot-5 guard could be successful in the ACC. Fair not only exceeded expectations and proved the doubters wrong earning All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team recognition in 2023. She led the Orange to the WNIT Super 16 and was one of the top scorers in the ACC with 19.9 ppg.
Fair elected to use her fifth year granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 waiver and returned to Syracuse for one last run with the woman who believed in her since the beginning, Felisha Legette-Jack.
Now the duo, named ESPN's Player and Coach of the Week on Feb. 12, have #19 Syracuse one game out of first place in the ACC with a 20-4 overall record and 10 ACC wins for the first time since 2018-19.
Fair has climbed the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list this season averaging 21.8 ppg. She currently has 3,123 career points and is 70 points from tying Brittney Griner for fifth all-time. Earlier this season Fair became the fastest player in program history to score 1,000 points at Syracuse and set the program record for threes in a game when she made nine on 14 attempts in a comeback win over No. 15 Florida State on Jan. 18.
Fair is an ACC and National Player of the Year candidate. While she has flown under the radar for most of the season, Syracuse's top-25 ranking has catapulted the Orange to the national spotlight, therefore making Fair a household name.
Whether its a fourth-quarter scoring explosion or sinking the game-winning free throw, Fair continues to rise to the challenge.Â
With five regular season games remaining, and just two at home, Feb. 22 vs. Duke and Feb. 25 vs. Pittsburgh, the sky is the limit this Orange squad.
Fans can purchase tickets to remaining home games at the JMA Wireless Dome online or by calling the box office at 888-DOME-TIX.
