SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team improved to a perfect 6-0 at home after defeating Massachusetts, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Drumlin's Country Club.
The doubles event came down to the wire. The duo of Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Emilie Elde got the first victory against UMass's Mariya Krasakova and Alexandra O'Brien in the number three spot, 6-2. Quickly after, Constance Levivier and Anastasia Sysoeva dropped their match in the number two spot to Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye, 6-2.
The deciding match for the doubles point came down to the pair of Ines Fonte and Polina Kozyreva versus Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul in the number one spot. Tied at 6-6, the sides went into a tiebreaker to decide the match. It was a back-and-forth battle, but the pairing of Fonte and Kozyreva held on to win the tiebreaker and secure the doubles point for the Orange.
The Orange took the momentum into the singles event, as Fonte took down Mariana Campino, 6-0, 6-1, in the number five spot. Shiori Ito finished soon after, beating Tye in the number four spot, 6-2, 6-2. Kozyreva grabbed the winning point for Syracuse with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Faessler in the number two spot.
