Orange Host Clemson And Georgia Tech This Weekend

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team (6-1, 1-0 ACC) is set to host back-to-back conference opponents at Drumlin's Country Club this weekend. The Orange will face Clemson (7-2, 0-0) on Friday, February 23, at 3 p.m., followed by Georgia Tech (4-4, 0-0) on Sunday, February 25, at 11 a.m.
Friday will mark the 10th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Clemson, with the Orange trailing the Tigers 5-4 in the series. In their most recent matchup on March 17, 2023, when 'Cuse conceded, 6-1. The Orange last defeated the Tigers with a 4-0 sweep on March 6, 2022. Georgia Tech owns a 10-3 advantage in the all-time series with Syracuse. The Yellow Jackets have taken the last three matches in the series, most recently in the ACC Tournament last season on April 20, 2023, when the Orange lost 4-0. Syracuse's last victory against Georgia Tech was on April 2, 2021, where 'Cuse outlasted the Yellow Jackets, 4-3.
Clemson's last contest on February 14 resulted in a 6-1 loss against South Carolina. Alexandra Anttila secured the lone victory of the day for the Tigers, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0. Their scheduled matches for this past weekend against Coastal Carolina and Mercer were postponed to be played at a later date.
After sweeping Penn last Saturday, 7-0, Georgia Tech dropped its match against #8 Georgia on Sunday, 4-1. Kate Sharabura put the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard against the Bulldogs in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Sharabura then paired with Carol Lee in the No. 1 doubles spot to help secure a 6-2 win.
Last weekend, Syracuse secured victories against Boston College and Massachusetts, improving to 6-0 at home this season. Ines Fonte, Shiori Ito and Polina Kozyreva earned victories in the five, four and two singles spots, respectively. The duo of Emilie Elde and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya gave 'Cuse its first doubles win of the day, followed by Fonte and Kozyreva in the No. 1 doubles spot for a 7-6 win.
Following Sunday's match, the Orange will continue conference play as they travel south to face Duke on Friday, March 1, and North Carolina on Sunday, Mar 3.
