
Orange Lose at Columbia

SYRACUSE N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season against Columbia, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Center.

Syracuse got the first win of the day thanks to a 6-2 victory from Miyuka Kimoto and Emilie Elde. The Orange secured the doubles point as Constance Levivier and Anastasia Sysoeva edged their opponents in the number three spot, 7-5. The duo of Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Shiori Ito had their match retired with the score knotted, 6-6.

Four of the six singles matches went into the third set. The lone singles win for 'Cuse came from Sysoeva in the number five spot over Natacha Schou, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6. The number one showdown of Kimoto and Julia Haynes wrapped up first, 6-2, 6-3. Kanapatskaya followed with a loss to Anna Zhang, 7-6, 6-4, in the number two spot.

Kozyreva took the first set of her match against Gayathri Krishnan in the number three spot, but ultimately was defeated, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Fatima Keita claimed victory against Elde in the number four spot, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Competition wrapped up with Salma Farhat besting Ito in the number six spot, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3.

The Orange take a short break this weekend before coming back home to Drumlin's Country Club. Syracuse faces its first ACC opponent of the season against Boston College on Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m.
