THE GAME
- Game seven of the seven-game homestand to open the 2024 season is upon as the No. 8/7 Orange prepare to host the Panthers of High Point University Saturday evening.
- It's another first-time meeting for the Orange as High Point joins Manhattan and Utah as fresh opponents to the all-time list of foes for Syracuse.
- Ian Nicholas and Tyler Aitken will have the call Saturday night for ACC Network Extra at the JMA Wireless Dome. Tim Leonard (pxp) and Kyle Fetterly (analyst) have the radio call on TK99/105, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as will WAER.
- Syracuse will play its seventh game of the 2024 season as the Orange are one of just three teams in Division I with six games already played. Syracuse is the only Division I team to play its seventh home game of the season already.
THE HIGH POINT Â SERIES
- Syracuse and the Panthers will clash for the first time in program history on Saturday.
- Despite that, this game is far from the lone contest involving the state of North Carolina.
- Next weekend, the Orange take on long-time rival Johns Hopkins in Charlotte, North Carolina, before hosting Duke on March 20.
- The Orange return to the Tar Heel State to face just that: Â the Tar Heels of North Carolina on April 13. The 2024 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship is set for May 3 and May 5, back in Charlotte, North Carolina at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
- 'Cuse is 36-21 all-time against teams from North Carolina: 14-9 vs Duke, 19-12 vs. UNC, 3-0 vs. NC State
RE-MARK-ABLE
- Will Mark is back for a fifth season of college lacrosse.
- #88 returns for his second season between the pipes for the Orange, backstopping Syracuse to an 8-7 record a year ago.
- In his first season with 'Cuse, Mark made 207 saves at a 54.2 percent clip, averaging 13.8 saves per game.
- Mark ranked eighth nationally in saves per game last season and led the ACC.
- In his career, with the first three seasons at LIU, Mark has made 768 saves in his career and is the current active leader among NCAA Division I netminders. Well over 100 clear of the next-closest active goalie - Chayse Ierlan of Johns Hopkins. The two NCAA active leaders square off in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 9 at the Crown Lacrosse Classic.
- With a solid season near or above his average of 176 saves per year, Mark could move inside the NCAA Division I top 10 for career saves. Only three players have ever made more than 1,000 saves and none this century.
- Mark is currently tied for 18th all-time in Division I for career saves, pulling even with former Virginia Military Institute (VMI) netminder Ryan Olson's 768 from 1993-96.Â
- Two saves on Saturday will move Mark past Duncan Woodard (Lafayette) career saves total of 769. Paul Schimoler (Cornell) is 16th all-time with 787 stops from 1986-89.
- Only 14 Division I goalies have made more than 800 career saves.
