Orange Lose to No. 18 Duke; No. 4 UNC Up Next

DURHAM, N.C. – The Syracuse women's tennis team was defeated in its first road ACC match of the season against No. 18 Duke (7-4, 1-2 ACC), 6-1, on Friday night in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Orange move to 7-3 on the season and 2-2 in ACC play.

In the doubles event, the duo of Emilie Elde and Shiori Ito were first to finish up in the number two spot, dropping their match to Emma Jackson and Karolina Berankova, 6-2. The Blue Devils took the doubles point after the pairing of Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova defeated Anastasia Sysoeva and Constance Levivier in the number three spot, 6-2. Miyuka Kimoto and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya were ahead, 4-3, in their match against Shavit Kimchi and Katie Codd in the number one spot before the contest moved onto the singles event.

In singles action, Ito was bested by Shvets in the number five spot, 6-0, 6-0. That match was followed by Elde and Kimchi in the number one spot, which was taken by Duke, 6-2, 6-2.

Sysoeva snagged the lone point of the night for the Orange, taking down Berankova in the number six spot, 6-2, 6-4. Duke secured the win after Codd stood victorious in the number four spot against Polina Kozyreva, 6-4, 6-0.

Kimoto battled in the number two spot against Jackson, but ultimately fell short 7-5, 6-3. The match was rounded out with Bryzgalova beating Kanapastkaya in the number three singles spot, 6-4, 6-4.

The Orange stay in North Carolina to take on the No. 4 Tar Heels on Sunday, March 3 at 11 a.m. The match will have live results available and each court will be streamed live online.
