Neuner Runner-Up in ACC Steeplechase

Madison Neuner was runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, becoming the second Syracuse distance runner to reach the podium in as many events at the ACC Championships.

Neuner set a personal-best time of 9:56.63, one of two runners to cross the line in under 10 minutes, behind Notre Dame's Sophie Novak for the event title. Bethany Steiner also set a personal-best time of 10:40.54 in the event, taking 13th.

Neuner follows Savannah Roark, who was third in the women's 10,000-meter run on Thursday.

Julian Franjieh also set a PR in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase final, taking 12th in 8:58.75.

In prelims action, Jaheem Hayles and Naseem Smith both punched their tickets to Saturday's 110-meter hurdles final. Hayles cruised to win his heat in 13.91 seconds, while Smith set a PR time of 13.97 seconds to qualify on time. Emanuel Joseph was one spot out of reaching the finals, taking ninth (14.19 seconds), while Anthony Vazquez (14.27 seconds) and Isaiah Lewis (14.78 seconds) were 11th and 13th.

Trei Thorogood is also advancing to Saturday in the 100-meter dash. He had the fourth-best prelim time, finishing in 10.49 seconds. James Nmah (10.93 seconds) was 15th.

Kitana Burgard set a personal best in the women's 100-meter dash, but was 0.02 seconds shy of reaching the finals. She posted a time of 11.60 seconds. Kaleia Arrington placed 21st.

Taleea Buxton took 11th in the women's 100 with a time of 13.77 seconds.

The ACC Championships conclude on Saturday, with racing beginning at 5 p.m.
