'Cuse Update
The Orange are coming off their first win of the season at Colgate (Aug. 22). 'Cuse used a last-minute goal by Chimere Omeze to edge the Raiders, 1-0, on their home field.
Tomas Hut provided a huge performance for SU, collecting four saves and a clean sheet in his Syracuse debut.
The win helped Syracuse to a 10-4 record in season openers under head coach Ian McIntyre. The Orange have now also won four-consecutive openers.
Prior to the season, Syracuse earned wins in all three of its exhibition games over St. Bonaventure (Aug. 10), Marist (Aug. 13), and Rutgers (Aug. 17), outscoring its opponents, 8-3.
Orange in the Polls
Syracuse was tabbed No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings, marking the second-consecutive season the Orange have been included in the preseason poll.
Syracuse was one of 10 ACC teams included in the USC preseason rankings. The other nine schools included reigning National Champions, Clemson (No. 1), Notre Dame (No. 2), Stanford (No. 5), UNC (No. 6), SMU (No. 10), Virginia (No. 13), Wake Forest (No. 15), Duke (No. 20), and Louisville (No. 24).
2024 Promotional Schedule: Home Opener
Syracuse men's soccer invites the Orange community to SU Soccer Stadium for eight themed matches throughout the 2024 campaign, starting with the home opener against Niagara. Each themed match will feature special events, activities, giveaways, and more.
The first 100 students in attendance will be welcomed back to the hill with Syracuse flags to help root on the Orange.
Scouting the Purple Eagles
Niagara opened its 2024 season on Thursday, Aug. 22, against Albany. The game was a back-and-forth battle, as the teams were deadlocked at two goals apiece until the 88th minute, when the Great Danes broke the tie to secure a 3-2 win.
Both of NU's goals were scored by senior Felix Kogler. The Klagenfurt, Austria, native is coming off a junior season where he led the team with six goals and has already gotten off to a hot start in 2024.
Series History
The Orange hold an 18-4 advantage in the lifetime series against the Purple Eagles, falling just once in the teams' last 15 competitions. The two schools have never drawn a match.
'Cuse and Niagara have faced-off twice in the last three years (2021, 2022), with the Orange claiming wins in both contests by scores of 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.
Up Next
Syracuse returns to its home pitch on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m. when it hosts Charlotte. The match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra, and admission and parking will be free for everyone in attendance.
