Crittenden Advances to Olympic Semifinal
8/6/2024 10:18:00 AM | Track and Field
Freddie Crittenden III is headed to the Olympic semifinals.
The Orange alum took a cautious approach in the preliminary round, jogging the 110-meter hurdles to allow his body additional time to recover, but advanced through the repechage round with a win in his heat on Tuesday morning.
Crittenden will now race in the semifinal on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. eastern time. The top-two finishers in each heat, plus next two fastest times, will advance to the eight-man Olympic final on Thursday.
Crittenden holds the fastest PR and season best mark in his semifinal heat, but will face three of the other men ranked in the top-eight in the world, including Jason Joseph of Switzerland, Italy's Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli and Brazil's Rafael Pereira.
A former U.S. Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Crittenden was a five-time All-American and six-time All-ACC honoree in his time at Syracuse. He was a runner-up in back-to-back seasons at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in his collegiate career at Syracuse, where he graduated in 2017. He has since had a successful international career.
If Crittenden makes it through to the final, that'll be on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. eastern. NBC and Peacock will broadcast the races.
