FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
• Syracuse is in action at home on a Friday night for the fifth time in the last four years.
• The Orange have won seven of their last 11 Friday games, which includes 'Cuse's 27-24 win against No. 2 Clemson in 2017 and the 2018 Camping World Bowl victory against West Virginia.
• The Orange are 17-11 (.607) in weekday games since beating Kansas State in the 2010 Pinstripe Bowl.
McCORD MAKING WAVES
• QB Kyle McCord has been one of the top quarterbacks in the nation in the opening weeks of the season.
• He leads the nation in touchdown passes per game (4.0) and is second in passing yards per game (367.5) and total offense (372.0). McCord and the Orange rank third in the nation and second in the ACC in passing offense, averaging 367.5 yards per game.
• After completing 27-of-39 for 354 yards and four touchdowns in his 'Cuse debut against Ohio, he improved on those numbers against Georgia Tech. McCord was 32-for-46 for 381 yards and four touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets.
• He set new career highs in completions and yards and tied his personal best of four touchdown passes in the win against Georgia Tech.
• The four touchdowns mark was one shy of tying the program's single-game record. Three players in 'Cuse history have notched five in a game, most recently Eric Dungey (2018).
BYE, BYE, BYE
• Since 2009, Syracuse is 12-11 in games when it has an additional week to prepare, including an 8-9 record in regular-season games after a bye. The Orange's other four victories in that time are bowl wins that followed the 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2018 campaigns.
• Syracuse will have two bye weeks this season. The Orange will play a Friday night game (Stanford) and a Thursday night contest (at Pittsburgh) following the two off weekends.
• The Cardinal is also coming off a bye week. Friday's game is Stanford's first road game of the season.
DISRUPTIVE DIGGS
• DL Fadil Diggs leads the nation in tackles for loss, averaging 3.0 per game.
• He had four TFLs in the season opener against Ohio, which tie for the most by an FBS player this season. That total also ties for the sixth-highest single-game total in program history.
• Diggs also ranks 12th in the nation and fifth in the ACC in sacks (1.00 per game).
• He is tied for the team lead in tackles (15) this season.
• Diggs is in his first season with the Orange after transferring from Texas A&M after the 2023 campaign.
SERIES HISTORY
• Syracuse and Stanford will meet for the first time when they take the field on Friday night.
• The Cardinal are the Orange's first first-time opponent since 2021 when they faced UAlbany.
• Since the beginning of the 2000 season, Syracuse has played 17 new opponents, going 12-5 in those games.
A WIN WOULD …Â
• Improve head coach Fran Brown's record to 3-0.
• Move Fran Brown into a tie for the fourth-most wins to start his 'Cuse tenure. C.W.P. Reynolds (1925) won his first six games at the helm of the program, while Paul Pasqualoni (1991) and Lew Andreas (1927) both started 4-0. Five coaches have started 3-0 (excludes 1903 season when team had multiple head coaches).
• Extend Syracuse's ACC winning streak to three games, dating back to last season.
• Give Syracuse its 757th all-time victory (includes 11 wins from 2004-06 that were vacated by the NCAA). The Orange currently rank 21st on the FBS ledger of winningest programs. Syracuse is one of 34 FBS schools to have accumulated 700+ wins.
