
#5 Demon Deacons Defeat Orange

#5 Wake Forest (8-2-2, 3-1-1) scored twice in a 10-minute span of the second half to build a comfortable margin and defeated Syracuse (6-6-1, 0-5-0), 3-0, at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
The Orange were beaten by a top-eight foe for the third consecutive contest. Syracuse lost to #2 Florida State and #8 North Carolina prior to the Wake Forest match.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
The Wake Forest duo of Emily Murphy and Caiya Hanks teamed on the first two goals on similar plays. The first tally came 2:17 into the contest, when Murphy's cross fed Hanks for her fourth goal of the campaign. The two teams then played even into the second half when Murphy located Hanks again to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage at 55:31.
DEMON DEACONS SEAL THE WIN
Hanks had a hand in on the other goal of the contest. Less that nine minutes after her second tally, Hanks set up Emily Colton. The score by Colton, her fifth of the season, was recorded at 64:07.
ORANGE OPPORTUNITIES
Syracuse had its best chance to get on the board early in the second half. Erin Flurey carried deep into Wake Forest territory, then reversed and found Liesel Odden in front of the Demon Deacon goal. Odden hit the ball with pace, but Valentina Amaral was well positioned to make the stop. The exchange came 9:26 after the intermission.
