SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University women's ice hockey head coach Britni Smith and her 2024-25 squad are honored to announce Emelia "Emmy" Phillips to the program in partnership with Team IMPACT.
"We are thankful to have been introduced to Emmy and her family: Matt, Christine, and Andi, through Team IMPACT," said Smith. "Today, we are thrilled to officially welcome Emmy to our team. The success of our program and our culture depends on the people within it. We are extremely lucky to be adding four strong, determined, and amazing people to our group. Our team grew in both number and personal strength today."
Signing a "National Letter of Intent" Emmy and her family will be paired with Syracuse ice hockey throughout the season and was a key part of the official 2024-25 team photo and content day festivities. This is the 10th year Syracuse and Team IMPACT have enjoyed their partnership and is the 13th match between programs.
Emmy, age 5, was diagnosed with spina bifida and CASK genetic disorder. Emmy was joined at the signing day by her parents, Christine and Matt, and her sister Anderson.
"I am so excited to have Emmy and her family join our team this year," said Tatum White, a graduate student on the Syracuse team and Team IMPACT fellow. "After working with Team IMPACT last year through the fellowship program, I have seen the life-changing experiences that many children have had with college sports teams across the country. I am grateful and thrilled to finally be part of that experience with my own team and Emmy. I can't wait to get started!"
"Team IMPACT is excited to see Emmy join the Orange," said Emma Simches, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to work with Syracuse University, its athletic department, and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."
Syracuse ice hockey will host an exhibition at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Sunday, Sept. 22 with a 1 p.m. puck drop against University of Windsor. The Orange officially open the 2024-25 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Minnesota Duluth at 8 p.m. EST.
