CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 20 Syracuse men's soccer team (2-1-2) played to a 1-1 draw with the Boston College Eagles (2-0-3) on Friday night at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field. Gabe Threadgold gave 'Cuse its lone score of the contest just 43 seconds into play, sending a ball from Michael Acquah past BC's goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Â
"I'm pleased that our team was able to go on the road and get a point against a good Boston College team," said head coach Ian McIntyre. "We're a very new team and this was the first ACC match for a lot of our guys. It's hard to earn points in the ACC, so we are going to go back to Syracuse and will continue to build on that."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
It took just 43 seconds for Threadgold to find the back of the net, taking a ball from Acquah in the box and sending it past the Eagle's goalie to put SU in front, 1-0.
Â
Tomas Hut, who made five-total stops in the match, recorded two of his saves early in the first half to keep SU in front. However, the Eagles were able to sneak one past the Orange keeper in the 22nd minute to level the contest at one goal apiece.
Â
The teams headed into halftime deadlocked at 1-1 and continued to trade scoring chances throughout the second half, but neither could find the go-ahead goal.
Â
With just under 90 seconds to play, Boston College put together a pair of promising chances, but Hut came up huge, providing two key saves in goal, as the teams went on to end the contest in a 1-1 draw.
Â
OF NOTE:Â
UP NEXT:Â
The Orange have a week off before returning home to SU Soccer Stadium to host Virginia Tech for the program's Alumni and Family Night on Friday, Sept. 13. The contest, which is set for 7:30 p.m., will be Syracuse's first nationally-televised match of the season on ACC Network.
