Orange Downed by No. 17 Virginia Tech

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's soccer team (2-2-2) fell to No. 17 Virginia Tech (5-0-1), 2-0, on Friday night at SU Soccer Stadium. The Hokies recorded two goals in two minutes during the second half to secure their victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Orange opened the scoring attempts in the game with a shot from Sam Layton in the sixth minute, as both teams went on to trade five shots apiece throughout the game's first half.
VT and Syracuse went into halftime in a 0-0 tie, but the Hokies broke through in the second half, netting a direct free kick in the 60th minute.
The Hokies doubled their lead two minutes later sending a ball to the top right corner of the net.
'Cuse added seven shots to its game total of 12 in the second half, but could not find the back of the net, falling 2-0.
OF NOTE:
'Cuse returns to face Canisius at home on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The match, which is set for 7:00 p.m., will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. Admission and parking are free for all in attendance.

- Nicholas Kaloukian led the scoring efforts with three shots.
- Garrett Holman made his college debut in the loss, clocking 11 minutes on the pitch.
- Layton and Tomas Hut went the distance for their sixth-straight game as neither player has been subbed off the pitch this campaign. Chimere Omeze also played the full 90, something he has done in five of the Orange's six games.
- Syracuse falls to 3-6-1 in the lifetime series with VT.
- Tonight's attendance was 1,726, marking the fourth-consecutive home match with over 1,000 fans at SU Soccer Stadium.
