
Syracuse Loses Battle to Louisville, 72-62

Syracuse women's basketball (7-10, 1-5 ACC) lost a battle against Louisville (13-5, 6-1 ACC), 72-62, Thursday night inside the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Kyra Wood, Sophie Burrows and Georgia Woolley all notched double-figure scoring performances.

Burrows and Wood led the Orange with 17 points apiece, with Burrows ending just one point shy from her career high. Wood came within a rebound of a double-double, finishing the contest with a team-high nine boards, four of which came on the offensive glass. Woolley had 13 points in the contest.

Louisville was led in scoring by Tajian Roberts with 13 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisville started hot, building a 13-3 lead over the first five minutes of the contest. Burrows helped the Orange keep pace by scoring the team's first 10 points of the night. Syracuse turned it on in the second quarter, using a 6-0 run to tie the game, 23-23, with just under four minutes to go in the period. Wood briefly put the Orange up by one, 26-25, with a three-point play, but the Cardinals scored eight of the game's next 12 points to take a 33-30 advantage into halftime.Â
Louisville came out of the break with three different runs of six points or more, while holding Syracuse to just seven points during that span. The Cardinals led by as many as 15 points during the third quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Woolley and Burrows cut the Orange's deficit to eight points entering the final frame. 'Cuse and Louisville went back and forth in the first half of the fourth quarter, with Syracuse cutting the Cardinals' lead to seven with just over five minutes remaining. Louisville went over seven minutes without recording a field goal, but held on for a 72-62 victory.

- Burrows went 6-of-15 from the field and connected on 4-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc in her 17-point effort. Wood went 7-of-15 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line to reach her 17-point tally.
