
Syracuse Drops Decision to Penn State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 9 Penn State in an Atlantic Hockey America game at Tennity Ice Pavilion Saturday afternoon.
Syracuse (7-19-0, 5-7-0 AHA) battled fiercely but couldn't capitalize offensively. Goaltender Allie Kelley held the net for most of the game with 26 saves, while Bella Gould stepped in during the third period and made one save.
Penn State (21-4-1, 12-0-0 AHA) took the lead early with a shorthanded, unassisted goal from Grace Outwater. The scoring continued with contributions from Tessa Janecke and Nicole Hall, while Outwater struck again in the third. Katie DeSa recorded 25 saves to backstop the Nittany Lions' performance.
How it Happened
- Outwater put Penn State on the board early, scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal at 9:23 in the opening period.
- For the remainder of the first period, Syracuse's defensive unit worked diligently to neutralize Penn State's attack and maintain control of the puck.
- At the 2:15 mark in the second frame Janeke netted a shot from Katelyn Roberts and Taya MacDonald to put the Nittany Lions up 2-0.
- Hall scored late in the second period, scoring with help from Brianna Brooks and McKenna Walsh to push the Blue and White advantage to 3-0.
- Outwater capped off the scoring for Penn State in the third period, adding the fourth goal with help from Christian Maddy to clinch the 4-0 victory.
"We battled hard between the dots. Every game is important. We know every single point is going to be a battle, so another week of practice and right back to it. This is all part of the process. We just have to focus on getting the next one."

- Syracuse returns to action on Friday, January 24, at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, New York, to take on RIT for another weekend of AHA action.
