
Wiegand Nets First Collegiate Goal, But Orange Fall at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey fell 2-1 against RIT, Friday afternoon at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, New York in an Atlantic Hockey America showdown.
Syracuse (7-20-0, 5-8-0 AHA) took an early lead with a power play goal from Celia Wiegand assisted by Nea Tervonen and Peyton Armstrong. The 'Cuse defense was backed by Allie Kelley, who finished the night with 32 saves.
RIT (13-11-3, 6-6-1 AHA) registered two goals, once from Brac Kelley and again from Mia Tsilemos, both in the second period to give the Tigers the lead. Goaltender Sarah Coe stopped 26 scoring attempts.

How it Happened
- Wiegand wasted no time putting Syracuse on the board, scoring on the power play just 6 minutes and 12 seconds into the game off power play assists from Tervonen and Armstrong.
 - The Orange maintained offensive pressure for the remainder of the first period, recording 17 total shots in the first 20 minutes.
 - RIT got on the board at the 1:34 mark of the second period when Brac Kelley slipped in the equalizer shot on a powerplay, assisted by Bronwyn Khangsar and Kyla Bear.
 - Three minutes later, Tsilemos scored with a sharp-angle shot near the net, putting the Tigers ahead 2-1. Athena Vasdani and Jordyn Bear earned the assists.
 - In the third period, Syracuse put the pressure on defensively, stifling the Tigers' attack, but the Orange couldn't convert offensively, resulting in a 2-1 loss.
 
- Wiegand scored her first collegiate goal and her fifth point as a freshman.
 - Syracuse out-blocked the Tigers 13-10. Teavonen and Sami Gendron led the effort with three blocks each for the Orange.
 - Both teams scored on the power play.
 - Allie Kelley surpassed the 2,000 save mark during her time at Syracuse.
