Orange Anticipate Thousands for School Day Thursday
1/8/2025 2:36:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Thousands of Syracuse-area students will be in attendance when the Syracuse women's basketball team (6-8, 0-3 ACC) host Southern Methodist (9-6, 1-2 ACC) on Thursday at the JMA Wirless Dome for its annual School Day. Fans attending Thursday's game are encouraged to park in the Irving Ave. garage, free of charge. Tip-off is set for 10:30 a.m. on ACC Network Extra with Ian Nicholas, Adam Gotkin and Hudson Ridley on the call.Â
It's the first home game of the 2025 calendar year for Syracuse, who returns to the Dome following a two-game road trip to #13 Georgia Tech (L, 85-68) and Florida State (L, 85-73) last week. The Orange are led offensively by Georgia Woolley (14.9 ppg) while Sophie Burrows is coming off her first career double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Angelica Velez shined off the bench for SU versus Florida State last Sunday with a career-high 10 assists and eight rebounds, two boards shy of her first career double double.Â
SMU is 1-2 in the ACC this season having defeated Stanford, 67-63, to start the new year. The Mustangs are 2-4 away from Moody Coliseum this season and are 9-6 overall. Nya Robertson leads SMU with 20.3 points per game shooting 32.5% from three-point range while Jessica Peterson is one of the top rebounders in the league with 12.5 boards per game.Â
Thursday is the first meeting in program history between the two teams. SMU officially joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in July 2024 and will make its first ever trip to Syracuse this week. SMU is the first of the three new ACC additions (Cal, Stanford) to face the Orange this season. Syracuse travels to the west coast to play the other two in mid-February.Â
Tickets are available for all remaining home games online at cuse.com/tickets. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the JMA Wireless Dome Box Office at 888-DOME-TIX.Â
