From the Start
- The penultimate home game is here as No. 5 Syracuse renews a local rivalry with Colgate Friday evening at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Game time is set for 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
- Syracuse has not met the Raiders in an official game since the 2021 season, though the teams have scrimmaged periodically since then.
- The Orange are coming off back-to-back thrillers at Coyne last weekend, knocking off No. 7 Duke 1-0 before dispatching No. 20 Penn State with two goals in the final 90 seconds for a 3-2 win over the upset minded Nittany Lions.
- It's a one-game week for the Orange before hitting the heart of ACC play. After Friday's matchup, just one regular season home game hangs in the balance, an October 17 tilt with North Carolina.
- Syracuse moved back into the top five of the NFHCA Coaches Poll this week with its most recent pair of top 20 wins.
Senior Night at J.S. Coyne Stadium
- Friday night sees the Orange celebrate its eight-member senior and graduate student classes following the 5 p.m. game against Colgate.
- Syracuse will honor graduate students Lotti Knights, Liz Stange, Bo van Kempen, Danique Schuurman, and seniors Aiden Drabick, Lieke Leeggangers, Pati Strunk, and Lana Hamilton.
- Leeggangers and Hamilton are completing their fourth year with the Orange while Drabick wraps up her third. Strunk and van Kempen are two-year members of the 'Cuse while Knights, Stange, and Schuurman are concluding graduate studies at Syracuse.
With a Win Friday Syracuse Would...
- Win a third-straight game at home to complete this five-game home stand with a 3-2 mark. The two losses came against two teams ranked in the top 10 this week.
- Improve to 8-0 in nonconference play, the first unbeaten nonconference regular season for Syracuse since a clean 10-0 in 2016.
- Improve to 2-0 against Patriot League schools this season.
- Win its ninth-straight game against Colgate dating back to the 2003 season.
- Collect its 25th win all-time against the Raiders, the third-most wins for the Orange over a single opponent, trailing only Cornell (33) and Boston College (28).
The Cardiac 'Cuse
- You may need a note from your cardiologist to watch the Orange in 2025.
- The Cardiac 'Cuse is coming off its most recent set of one-goal games, scoring early and hanging on against Duke, including the last two minutes with 11 Duke field players and nine Syracuse field players after a card and a pull Blue Devil goalie.
- On Sunday, the Orange orchestrated a rally, trailing 2-1 with five minutes to play before striking twice in the final 90 seconds for a 3-2 win over No. 20 Penn State.
- Syracuse is tied for the most one-goal games and wins in the ACC this season with a 4-2 record in such contests. Virginia is 4-0 while Wake Forest is also 4-2. Syracuse's two losses this season were one-goal affairs against... Virginia and Wake Forest.
- Princeton is the only other team in the ACC, Big Ten or Ivy League with six one-goal games this season, also holding a 4-2 record. The Orange bested the Tigers 1-0 in overtime in New Jersey earlier this season.
Against the Ranks
- Last week, Syracuse played its sixth and seventh games of the season against teams ranked in the top 20. Lock Haven, Fairfield, and Lafayette are the only teams Syracuse has played this season that were not ranked at the time of the game.
- The Orange improved to 5-2 on the season against ranked teams, including a 3-1 mark against top 15 teams. Syracuse's only blemishes are against two teams now ranked inside the top 10: current No. 2 Virginia and Wake Forest, now ranked seventh.
- In head coach Lynn Farquhar's first season at the helm (2023) the Orange won four games against ranked teams. The five ranked wins to date are one shy of the most in Farquhar's head coaching career, one adrift of last season's six.
- Last fall, the Orange won six of their 13 games against ranked teams, including a 4-2 stretch in the midseason that included a three-game winning streak against the top 20.
- As a head coach, Farquhar has won 27 games against ranked teams including the one-goal games against No. 7 Duke and No. 20 Penn State.
