
Late Rally Falls Short Against Mercyhurst

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Orange women's ice hockey team came up just short Saturday afternoon falling 3-2 to Mercyhurst at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Syracuse (6-10-1, 4-5-1 AHA) battled hard throughout the contest but couldn't complete the comeback against Mercyhurst. The Orange offense rallied behind Charlotte Hallett and Nea Tervonen, the two scorers of the day. Ava Drabyk made 31 saves to keep 'Cuse close in the game.
Mercyhurst (9-7-2, 6-3-1 AHA) bounced back from Friday's shootout loss with three goal scorers, Jessica Ciarrocchi, Jade Maisonneuve, and Nayeon Kim. Magdalena Luggin earned the win with 21 saves.

How it Happened
- Mercyhurst struck first late in the opening period when Ciarrocchi scored at 16:21 assisted by Avery Norman and Holly VanNetten.
- The Lakers extended their lead early in the second period as Maisonneuve found the net at 6:18 with assists by Abby Poitras and Madison Nelson.
- Syracuse responded at 8:13 of the second period when Hallett lit the lamp assisted by Rylee McLeod and Heidi Knoll to cut the deficit.
- Mercyhurst tacked on another 1:02 into the third period when Kim scored a goal, assisted by Regina Metzler and Sofia Nuutinen
- The Orange rallied 42 seconds later when Tervonen hit a slapshot into the back of the net at 1:44 on passes by Stella Costabile and Jackson Kinsler. But 'Cuse was unable to net another following the third period push.
- Jordan Blouin led the Orange attack with five shots on goal.
- Sami Gendron led the defensive effort with four blocked shots.
- Emma Gnade won 10 of 17 faceoffs in the circle.
- Syracuse's power play defense was perfect this weekend not allowing a goal against the Lakers.
