Puck Drop
- Game three of a four-game home stand awaits the Orange on Tuesday as Syracuse hosts the second leg of the Cornell Series.
- Puck drop against the Big Red is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion on FloHockey.
- Syracuse is looking to bounce back from a 3-2 setback on Saturday against AHA rival Mercyhurst and avenge a loss earlier in the year at Cornell nearly a month ago.
- Last weekend, the Orange went 0-1-1 against Mercyhurst, taking a 1-0 decision in Friday night's shootout after 2-2 tie through regulation and overtime.
- Tuesday is game three of a busy Thanksgiving week - the Orange play twice more on the backend of the holiday, hosting nonconference action Friday afternoon against RPI (4 p.m.) before heading to Troy, New York for the second half of the series on Saturday for another 4 p.m. start at RPI.
Rounding out the First Half
- Just five games left in the calendar year 2025 for the Orange, first with Cornell on Tuesday, followed by the RPI series this weekend.
- After that, it's two more home games against AHA foe Robert Morris on December 5 and December 6 to conclude the first half of the year.
- Syracuse is off to one of its better starts in the first half of a season, sitting at 6-10-1 with five games in the balance before the break.
- Under head coach Britni Smith, the best first half for Syracuse came in 2022-23 with an 8-13-1 start, while Syracuse went 7-12-0 last year before New Years Eve.Â
- By winning percentage, the .382 so far in the fall of 2025 is the second best in the last four seasons before the break, trailing only the .386 in 2022-23.
The Veteran and Freshman Balance
- The Orange have seen great production from both older and younger players, creating a balance essential to team success for the first third of the season.
- The freshmen have stepped up big time with Emma Gnade and Jordan Blouin leading the team in goals (4) on the year as Gnade is tied for the team lead in points (9) with Blouin close behind with eight.Â
- In net, freshman Ava Drabyk, has proven dominant facing multiple top-10 opponents and holding a 2.97 GAA with 402 saves. She has earned two AHA Player of the Week Awards and is ranked top-5 in saves per game and shutouts in the AHA.
- The veterans have shown their leadership on the ice. Sami Gendron leads the team with 37 blocks, with sophomore Jessica Cheung in second with 29. Junior captain Nea Tervonen and sophomore Celia Wiegand are tied for third with 23 blocks apiece.Â
- Junior Jackson Kinsler (7) and Tervonen (6) round out the 'Cuse top-5 in points.
- As the season goes on it'll be exciting to see the freshmen step up in big moments and for the veteran leadership to shine through for the remaining matches.
