UNCASVILLE, Conn.- The Syracuse women's basketball team fell 81-55 to #6Â Michigan at the Hall of Fame Classic in Sunday's matinee matchup. Freshman Uche Izoje collected her first career double-double, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds.Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
A slow start for the Orange resulted in a 20-6 deficit to the Wolverines to end the first quarter. Lailia Phelia, Sophie Burrows and Izoje each contributed to the score in the first 10 minutes of play. Â
On a series of turnovers early in the second quarter, Phelia emerged from the pile and charged towards the net. A foul prevented her from finishing, but she was able to contribute two points from the line to increase the score. Dominique Darius hit a step back three to force Michigan to call a timeout as 'Cuse went on a 7-0 run. The physicality on the court continued as Michigan closed out the first half leading 38-21 over SU.Â
Izoje knocked in four free throws and a field goal in the third quarter as the Orange tallied 18 points to start off the second half. SU had three steals, 10 offensive rebounds and 11 second chance points, but the Wolverines still closed out the quarter leading 64-39.Â
The Orange went 3-4 in the final quarter from beyond the arc as Phelia knocked down two and Olivia Schmitt added one herself. Keira Scott added points to the board, collecting five points from three free throws and a field goal. The Orange's 16-point quarter wasn't enough as the Wolverines topped Syracuse 81-55.Â
