11/6/2025 4:09:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Fresh off a convincing season-opening victory, the Syracuse women's basketball team (1-0) returns to the JMA Wireless Dome on Friday night to face UAlbany (1-0) at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.Â
The Orange rolled to a 74-50 win triumph over Stony Brook on Tuesday night in the season opener. Four players scored in double figures as SU was led by sophomore Shy Hawkins who had 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting off the bench. Transfers Laila Phelia and Dominique Darius each added 12 points in their Syracuse debuts while rookie Uche Izoje had 11 points and two blocks.Â
Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack notched her 400th career victory in the win, becoming the fourth current ACC head coach to reach the milestone joining NC States Wes Moore, Louisville's Jeff Walz and Miami's Tricia Cullop. The Orange dominated from the opening tip, building a 22-8 first quarter lead and never relinquishing its lead. Syracuse shot 49.2 percent from the field and out-rebounded Stony Brook 52-27.Â
Thursday's matchup with the Great Danes presents an opportunity for redemption, as the Orange look to avenge last season's 73-70 loss to UAlbany on Nov. 20, 2024 at the JMA Dome marking the first win for Albany against Syracuse in program history. The Orange hold a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series.Â
