Syracuse women's basketball (9-1, 1-0 ACC) returns to the JMA Wireless Dome Tuesday night to face Binghamton (6-3, 0-0 America East) at 7:00 PM ET on ACC Network Extra. The Orange look to remain perfect at home this season with a 7-0 record while riding a four-game winning streak.
Syracuse is coming off an 88-42 rout of Colgate, where freshman sensation Uche Izoje led with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Graduate student Dominique Darius added a career-high 10 assists and five steals in the dominant performance. The Orange controlled every aspect, dominating the paint 50-14 and overwhelming Colgate on the glass 55-26.
Izoje has been a revelation in her debut season, leading Syracuse in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) while ranking sixth nationally in blocks per game (2.9). The 6-3 center from Nigeria earned back-to-back ACC Rookie of the Week honors after transitioning seamlessly from three seasons playing professionally in Japan.
Senior guard Laila Phelia leads the team with 13.6 points per game, while Darius averages 12.1 points and a team-leading 3.1 assists. Junior Sophie Burrows is heating up at the right time, averaging 15.3 points over her last three games, including a season-high 22 points in Syracuse's ACC-opening win at SMU.
Syracuse holds a commanding 13-1 all-time advantage over Binghamton, with the only loss coming in 2005. Bearcats head coach Mary Grimes served as a Syracuse assistant from 2005-2010, adding an interesting storyline to the matchup.
A victory would improve Syracuse to 10-1 overall and 8-0 at home, extending the winning streak to five games as the Orange prepare for upcoming ACC battles against Duke (Dec. 28)Â and Florida State (Jan. 1).
Syracuse returns to the Dome Friday, December 19 at 10:30 a.m. to face Mercyhurst in the annual School Day game at 10:30 a.m. on ACCNX.Â
