Syracuse Hosts Florida State on New Year's Day
12/31/2025 11:09:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The Syracuse Orange (11-2, 1-1 ACC) return to action Thursday, January 1, welcoming Florida State (5-9, 0-2 ACC) to the JMA Wireless Dome for a 6 p.m. tipoff on ACC Network Extra.
Syracuse looks to bounce back from Sunday's 71-51 loss to Duke that snapped a six-game winning streak and marked their first home defeat of the season. The Orange struggled offensively against the Blue Devils, shooting just 34.4 percent from the field and connecting on only two three-pointers while being outrebounded 48-40. Dominique Darius led Syracuse with 18 points, while Laila Phelia added 11 in the loss.
The Orange enter New Year's Day riding high on their overall success this season, posting a 9-1 record at home under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack, who is in her fourth season at her alma mater. Syracuse has been dominant defensively, ranking second in the ACC in steals per game (12.2) and third in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (18.9). Freshman sensation Uche Izoje continues to shine, leading the ACC in blocks per game (2.8) while ranking seventh nationally. The three-time ACC Rookie of the Week has been a force in the paint, averaging 12.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
Florida State enters the matchup struggling at 5-9 overall and searching for their first ACC victory after starting conference play 0-2. FSU is 1-4 in their last five games and are playing their first game since Dec. 20, 2025. The Seminoles hold an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series, but Syracuse is hungry for its first win over Florida State since erasing an 18-point deficit to beat the then-No. 15 Seminoles on January 18, 2024, at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Fans attending Sunday's game are encouraged to stop by the marketing tables at Gates B and C or Guest Services at the Dome to pick up some Syracuse women's basketball swag, including schedule posters, wristbands and collectible roster cards.
