THE GAME
- Friday night kicks off a busy three-games-in-eight days slate for Syracuse University men's lacrosse. The Orange, ranked second in both major polls this week, host Vermont for a third-straight season at the JMA Wireless Dome. The 2025 Catamounts are a mystery entering Friday night's game as the visitors begin their latest campaign.
- Syracuse opened the year last week in style, dispatching Jacksonville 24-5 behind eight different multiple goal getters and getting at least one point from 16 different players. Jimmy McCool made he first career start in net for the Orange, stopping nine Jacksonville chances along the way.
- Friday night's game is slated for a 6 p.m. start on ACC Network Extra with Luke Burgess and All-American Stephen Rehfuss '21 in the booth and Sean Dorcellus '21 working the sideline.
- Tim Leonard '20 (play-by-play) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) take to the airwaves on Syracuse Sports Network and TK99/105 locally, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER.
THE VERMONT SERIES
- Syracuse and the Catamounts meet for the fourth time since 2021 and for a third-straight season Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse has won the previous three outings.
- The 2023 game was a close, 7-5 Syracuse win at home as a large contingent of the Orange roster played their first collegiate games. This year's junior class opened their Orange careers against the Catamounts.
- Last season's meeting had a little more breathing room for the homeside as Syracuse handled the Catamounts 20-7. The Catamounts struck first but Syracuse responded with an 8-1 run and only allowed Vermont back-to-back goals once in the 60 minutes.Â
- The Orange forced the Catamounts to beat them off the dodge as Vermont had just two unassisted goals the entire game. Vermont has just four assisted goals in the last two meetings.
- Vermont is the only team from the America East the Orange will see this regular season. Likewise, the Catamounts play just one ACC team this year.
A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD...
- Improve Syracuse to 2-0 this season and start the season 2-0 for the third consecutive season.
- Move Syracuse to 4-0 all-time against Vermont.
- See the Orange win their 272nd game in the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Be the 950th win in program history, second-most among Division I programs.
- Bump Syracuse's home winning streak to five in a row dating back to a 19-13 win over rv High Point last season. The Orange have out-scored opponents 91-54 across the last four home games.
LEADER OF CHAOS
- At the end of January, the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced a new head coach for the Carolina Chaos and a familiar name to Orange Nation: Roy Colsey
- Colsey, a Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame member and four-time USILA All-American, was part of two of Syracuse's NCAA leading 11 national championships, leading the Orange to titles in 1993 and his senior season 1995.
- During that 1995 season, Colsey served as a team captain en route to the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin, Jr. Award as the nation's most outstanding midfielder.
- Colsey later enjoyed long professional careers in both Major League Lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League, winning three titles in the MLL.
