
Orange Break Seminoles Winning Streak

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 45 Syracuse women's tennis team (8-3, 1-3 ACC) defeated Florida State (10-2, 1-1 ACC) winning, 4-3, Sunday at Drumlins, breaking the Seminoles' eight-match winning-streak.
Syracuse opened the match by winning the doubles point against Florida State, which was FSU's first time losing the point since the start of their season on Jan. 19.
Following doubles play, Serafima Shastova, Monika Wojcik and Nelly Knezkova added to Syracuse's success in singles. Knekova clinched the match for the Orange in a huge comeback win against Millie Bissett to tally the first ACC conference win for 'Cuse.

The Orange will travel to the West Coast for a double-header against No. 38 Stanford on Friday, March 7 at 4 p.m. EST followed by a match on Saturday, March 8 against California at 3 p.m. EST.

THE RUNDOWN
- Syracuse won the doubles point for the seventh time this season against Florida State with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions.
- Contance Levivier appeared in her third doubles match of the season with partner Anastasia Sysoeva. The duo defeated Millie Bissett and Laura Putz at the No. 2 position with the result, 6-3. This was the pairing's first time playing together this spring.
- At the No. 3 doubles spot, Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik clinched the doubles point for the Orange winning 6-4. Together, the pairing moves to 4-1 in doubles play.
- Kimoto and Knezkova were tied with the score of 5-5 against opponents Eva Shaw and Maria Julianna Parra Romero at the No. 1 position before the match was declared unfinished.
- Shastova added another victory for the Orange after defeating Maria Juliana Parra Romero 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 4 spot. Shastova is now 6-2 in singles play for Syracuse.
- Wojcik entered a first set tiebreak at the No. 6 spot, winning, 7-6 (5), but fell short in the second set 2-6. She came back in the third to defeat Maelie Monfils, 6-0. Wojcik improves to 8-2 on the campaign.
- At the No. 2 singles position, Knezkova entered a third set for the third time this season. She lost the first set, 7-5, but stayed alive in the second in a tiebreak, 7-6 (6), and won the third 6-3 to clinch the match for Syracuse. Knezkova won the last four games to secure the victory.
- The all-time series is now 7-6, still led by Florida State.
- Syracuse tallied its first ACC win.
