
‘Cuse Drops Battle to No. 19 Stanford in ACC Opener

STANFORD, Cal. - The Syracuse softball team (16-3, 0-1 ACC) fell to the No. 19 Stanford Cardinal (15-3, 3-1 ACC) in its first game of the ACC season. The Cardinal put four runs on the board early in the game, and despite a comeback effort, the Orange could not recover, ultimately falling 4-3 to the conference newcomer.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cardinal got themselves on the board first with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Stanford's runs were produced by a pair of RBI triples and a pair of RBI singles.
After a number of innings without a hit, the Orange got things going in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs on two RBI singles by Jadyn Burney and Madelyn Lopez to score Sofia Taliaferro and Taylor Posner.
Heading into the top of the seventh with a two-run deficit, the Orange looked to tie the game after Angie Ramos brought home a run with an RBI walk, but Syracuse could not close the gap, falling 4-3 in game one against the Cardinal.
