No. 10 Syracuse will face three top 20 teams on Saturday, with the Orange set to race against No. 5 Tennessee, No. 6 Princeton and No. 16 Ohio State at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The races will be streamed live on ESPN+ via a paid subscription.
The Orange will start the day with their varsity eight at 11 a.m. followed by the second varsity eight at 11:15 a.m. The varsity four is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the third varsity eight starting at 11:45 a.m. The second varsity four will race at noon with the third varsity four closing out the day at 12:15 p.m.
Syracuse, the defending ACC champions, saw its 3V8 and 3V4 race in the NYS Collegiate Championships on April 19 at Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The 3V4 took home the gold medal in the varsity four category with the 3V8 placing second in the varsity eight category. The Orange won three out of their four races at the event between heats and finals.
Prior to the NYS Collegiate Championships, the V8, 2V8, V4 and 2V4 last competed against No. 2 Stanford and No. 9 California at Redwood Shores, Calif. The Cardinal and Golden Bears are currently the top two ranked teams from the ACC.
Tennessee jumped a spot from No. 6 to No. 5 in this week's CRCA Coaches poll following a statement victory over No. 3 Washington last weekend at the Big Ten Invitational. Tennessee's varsity eight finished in 6:20.834, nearly two seconds ahead of the Huskies (6:22.568). Their varsity eight also defeated No. 7 Brown, No. 11 Michigan, No. 13 Penn and No. 16 Ohio State at the event.
The Tigers checked in at No. 6 in this week's poll following a loss to No. 4 Yale over the weekend in the battle for the Eisenburg Cup. Princeton won its first two cup races of the season, retaining The Class of 1975 Cup against No. 14 Harvard and The Class of 1987 Trophy against No. 7 Brown. This will be Princeton's third time racing at Lake Carnegie this spring.
Ohio State also competed at last weekend's Big Ten Invite, tallying six victories and nine top-two finishes. The Buckeyes dropped two spots in the poll this week to No. 16. This will be the second time this season Syracuse has competed against the Buckeyes, with the first coming on March 22 at the B1G/ACC/Ivy Dual in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Orange won five of six races against Ohio State at that event.
All three of Syracuse's opponents Saturday are prominent national contenders. Princeton has appeared in every NCAA Championship since the first edition of the event in 1997 and has finished in the top four in three consecutive seasons. Ohio State has qualified for each NCAA Championship since 2000 and won three straight national titles from 2013-15. The Volunteers finished third last season for their best finish in the event. Â
This will be Syracuse's final event before the Orange try to defend their conference title at the ACC Championship in Clemson, S.C. on May 16-17.
