Pro Orange: Week Two PLL Update
6/9/2025 3:56:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It was a homecoming weekend for the Carolina Chaos as the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) made its way to Charlotte, North Carolina for week two of the PLL season.
The PLL held its four-game weekend at a site familiar to Syracuse University men's lacrosse fans: American Legion Memorial Stadium, the stadium at which the Orange captured the 2025 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship in May.
The Chaos split the weekend as the team that played twice in North Carolina, topping the star-studding Denver Outlaws 12-9 Friday night, but fell to the upstart California Redwoods 16-10 Saturday evening. The Philadelphia Waterdogs topped the Maryland Whipsnakes 16-12 in the Friday nightcap while the Boston Cannons stunned the back-to-back defending champion Utah Archers 9-8 on Saturday afternoon.
With the Orange-heavy New York Atlas on an early bye week, only one former Syracuse player, Carter Rice, suited up for action this weekend. Below are capsules of each Orange-connected PLL personnel from the weekend.
Carter Rice - California Redwoods
Rice generated one ground ball and had six touches as the Redwoods outpaced the Chaos 16-10 in the final game of the weekend. The Redwoods trailed 5-2 at the midway point of the second quarter before exploding on a 12-point run across the remainder of the second and nearly the entire third period.
Cole Kirst - California Redwoods
Kirst was listed on the Redwoods' Protected Roster for week two but did not see game action in Charlotte.
Roy Colsey - Carolina Chaos
First-year head coach Roy Colsey collected his first PLL win as the bench boss as the Chaos stormed past an Outlaws team that features four Tewaaraton Award winners. With the game tied 7-7 after three periods, the Chaos out-scored the Outlaws 5-2 in the final frame, surrendering just one scoring shot, a 2-pointer late in the fourth quarter on the power play.
John Odierna - Boston Cannons
The Cannons rallied back from a two-goal deficit late in the fourth quarter as Marcus Holman scored the game-winning goal with less than two seconds to play for the 9-8 win. The Cannons scored the final two goals of the game in the final 74 seconds to seal the win. A first-year defensive coordinator with the Cannons, Odierna and his defense saw five Archers turnovers in the final five minutes of the game to flip the script. Odierna's defense held the Archers to their season average of eight goals.
Paul Carcaterra - ESPN Broadcast
For a second-straight week, former Syracuse All-American midfielder Paul Carcaterra called all four games of the PLL weekend for the World Wide Leader, including Saturday's Archers-Cannons game carried nationally on ABC. All four games were also streaming on ESPN+.
Matt Palumb - Head of Officiating
Another full weekend of action for All-American goaltender Matt Palumb as the head of officiating for the PLL, serving as the top referee for all four games this weekend.
Tucker Dordevic - Maryland Whipsnakes
Dordevic is listed on the injured reserve list for the Whipsnakes with a fractured jaw, per PremiereLacrosseLeague.com.
The PLL makes its way to the City of Brotherly Love suburbs this weekend at Villanova Stadium for the Waterdogs' homecoming weekend. The Philly-based team leads off Friday night at 6 p.m. against the Boston Cannons before rounding out the weekend on Saturday with a 7 p.m. start against the Outlaws. Both games will be carried on ESPN+. Redwoods and Archers cap Friday's action with an 8:30 p.m. start on ESPN+. This weekend's national game sees the Atlas return for a 1 p.m. game against the Whipsnakes on both ABC and ESPN+. The Chaos have the bye-week after their homecoming in the Carolinas.
