
Syracuse Edged By No. 8 Stanford, 3-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Two late Stanford goals put the No.8 Cardinal up past the Orange 3-2 in Saturday night's conference opener at SU Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Starting off in the 10th minute, Kristjan Fortier fired from outside the box. The ball was blocked by the Cardinal and deflected back to Fortier, setting him up to net his first goal of the season.
Stanford kept up, as Zach Bohane scored off a penalty kick in the 33rd minute after Tim Noeding was called for a hand ball.
Syracuse answered in the second half, as Chimere Omeze chased the ball down before it went out of bounds, sneaking a shot in and putting the ball in the upper left pocket of the goal in the 75th minute.
The Cardinal were quick to answer, equalizing the score in the 79th minute, as Fletcher Bank rushed down the field and struck the ball from outside the box and past goalkeeper Tomas Hut.
Stanford sealed the victory, as Trevor Islam scored in the 84th minute. Islam took a shot straight to Hut who blocked the ball, putting it back into Islam's range, allowing him to send the ball to the back of the net.

- The crowd of 2,224 fans were in attendance for the match, marking the fifth-highest attendance record in Syracuse Men's Soccer history.
- The Orange outshot its opponent once again recording 11 shots over Stanford's eight.
- Stanford would have had two goals off of corner kicks, but were called back for offsides.
