Syracuse unable to catch up to No. 6 Duluth

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University women's ice hockey was shutout 4-0 Friday night by No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth at Tennity Ice Pavillion.
Syracuse (0-2-0) was unable to score in three periods of play. Junior Jackson Kinsler and freshman Rachel Walsh led the team in shots with two each. Junior Nea Tervonen won nine of her thirteen faceoffs of the night.
Minnesota Duluth (4-0-0) had Thea Johansson find the back of the net on two occasions while two other Bulldogs scored a point as well.

How it Happened
- Both defenses played strong in the first period not allowing a shot to find its way to the goal. Syracuse freshman goalkeeper Ava Drabyk had 13 saves in the first period.
- The Bulldogs went up 1-0 at 14:46 in the second period with a Molly Cole goal assisted by Zoey Krock.
- In the third period, Caitlin Kraemer snaked her way through the defense and score to put Duluth up 2-0 assisted by Madison Burr and Ashley Messier.
- Later in the third Johansson would breakaway after passes from Mary Kate O'Brien and Kate Kosobud to deliver her first goal of the night.
- Less than a minute later Johansson would score during an empty net for Syracuse, putting the Bulldogs up 4-0.
Behind the Numbers
- Drabyk finished the night with 33 saves through three periods of play.
- Syracuse won more faceoffs than Duluth 25-24.
- The Orange out blocked the Bulldogs 14-10. Five Syracuse players had two blocks throughout the game.
