SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Orange women's basketball team (16-3, 6-2) defeated Stanford (15-5, 4-3) for the first time in program history, 69-58. Dominique Darius recorded a career-high 26 points to help push SU over the Cardinal in Sunday's match up.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Stanford won the opening tipoff and scoring on the first possession. Sophie Burrows stole the ball, finding Shy Hawkins to answer back making it 2-2. A three-pointer from Darius gave the Orange its first lead of the game. Darius would then go on to shoot 4-of-6 from the field in the first 10 minutes of play, including another bucket from beyond the arc. Burrows blocked Stanford's last shot attempt of the quarter to keep SU's lead at 21-17.Â
Olivia Schmitt's steal and layup kicked off the next quarter for Syracuse. Keira Scott's jumper would give 'Cuse an eight-point lead, the largest in the game to that point. The Orange put pressure defensively, keeping the Cardinal scoreless for the first three minutes and 21 seconds in the second quarter. SU recorded six steals as Stanford committed seven turnovers in the frame. The Orange held onto their eight-point advantage, leading 37-29 entering the locker room at halftime. Â
Back for the second half, Stanford scored a field goal and two foul shots to close in on the Orange's lead. Burrows fed Uche Izoje the ball to put two points up on the board through a crowd of Stanford defenders, extending the lead again. Burrows swarmed in to take away another Cardinal ball, finding Hawkins who then took it down the court to the net in the final 22 seconds of play in the third quarter. Syracuse upheld their score advantage, leading 49-41 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.Â
On the first drive of the final quarter, Burrows stepped back to hit a three-point shot. Hawkins recorded her fourth steal of the game, giving Darius the ball to score a fast-break layup. The Orange outscored Stanford 20-17 in the fourth quarter, along with collecting another block and four steals. SU was able to pull away with the 69-58 win, its first victory over Stanford in program history.Â
