The Syracuse women's basketball team (16-3, 6-2 ACC) heads to Chapel Hill riding a three-game winning streak and looking to continue their impressive 2025-26 campaign this weekend. After being picked 13th in the ACC preseason poll, Coach Felisha Legette-Jack's squad has defied expectations and currently sits third in the conference standings.
The Orange and Tar Heels tip-off at noon in Carmichael Arena on the campus of UNC.Â
Syracuse is coming off a 69-58 victory over Stanford, where junior guard Dominique Darius delivered a career-high 26 points and earned USBWA National Player of the Week honors. Darius also hit the game-winning shot in the Orange's triple-overtime thriller against California on January 15.
The Orange lead the all-time series 9-8 but have struggled in Chapel Hill, holding a 3-7 record at Carmichael Arena. Syracuse hasn't won there since February 13, 2020, though they did upset #14 UNC at home during Coach Jack's first season in Feburary 2023.
Freshman center Uche Izoje has been a revelation, leading the ACC in blocks per game (2.9) and ranking third in field goal percentage (.566) while averaging 13.8 points and 8.9 rebounds. The five-time ACC Rookie of the Week has eight double-doubles and ranks fifth nationally in total blocks. Senior guard Laila Phelia is averaging 14.2 points while shooting 42.9% from three-point range, although she missed SU's last game against Stanford (back injury). Junior Sophie Burrows is averaging 14.8 points over her last five games, shooting 50% from deep.
Syracuse dominates the glass, leading the ACC and ranking fourth nationally in offensive rebounds (17.7 per game). The Orange have had nine games with four or more players in double figures, embodying Coach Jack's "go-to team" philosophy.
North Carolina (16-5, 5-3 ACC) is ranked 21st in the USA Today Coaches Top-25Â and riding its own three-game winning streak. A Syracuse victory would improve the Orange to 7-2 in conference play and boost their NCAA Tournament résumé as they currently project as an 8-seed.Â
