The Syracuse women's basketball team welcomes Virginia Tech to the JMA Wireless Dome Thursday evening for Alzheimer's Awareness Night at 6 p.m. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear purple to show their support for this important cause.
The Orange look to extend their two-game winning streak after a commanding 73-58 victory at Wake Forest on Saturday. Syracuse has been one of the ACC's biggest surprises this season, with the best winning percentage in the league (86.7%) while posting a 10-1 home record. Virginia Tech enters at 11-5 overall but struggling at 1-3 in ACC play. The Hokies hold a 10-9 edge in the all-time series, though Syracuse won last year's meeting 93-87.
Freshman sensation Uche Izoje continues her historic campaign, earning four ACC Rookie of the Week honors and becoming the first Syracuse freshman named USBWA National Freshman of the Week. The 6-foot-3 center leads the ACC in field goal percentage (.646) and blocks per game (2.9) while ranking fifth nationally in total blocks. She's averaging 13.7 points and 8.8 rebounds with six double-doubles this season.
Syracuse's balanced attack features four players averaging double figures. Senior Laila Phelia leads the team at 14.8 points per game in ACC play, while graduate student Dominique Darius adds 14.0 points and 3.6 assists in conference games. Junior Sophie Burrows contributes 12.5 points against ACC opponents (4 games).
The Orange defense has been key, ranking second in the ACC in steals (11.7) and leading the conference with 18.5 offensive rebounds per game—second-best nationally. Currently No. 42 in the NET rankings, Syracuse continues building its NCAA Tournament résumé.
Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM on ACC Network Extra. Don't forget to wear purple for Alzheimer's Awareness Night.Â
