The Syracuse women's basketball team (20-5, 10-4) defeated Pittsburgh (8-18, 1-12) on Thursday night at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh. Madeline Potts' four three-pointers off the bench helped push the Orange over the Panthers 84-51, securing the 20th win of the season for SU. The win marked the 28th-straight win against Pittsburgh for the Orange, a streak that dates back to the 2009-10 season. Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Laila Phelia found the ball in her hands after stealing a bad pass from the Panthers early in the first quarter. After the ball was knocked out of bounds by Pittsburgh, Dominique Darius inbounded to Uche Izoje, who found the net and gave Syracuse its first lead of the game.  The Orange kept the home team scoreless for two minutes and 10 seconds of play, stretching to a seven-point lead halfway through the quarter. The Panthers fought back, eventually taking the lead late in the first quarter, but Darius and Phelia's back-to-back three-point buckets put Syracuse back on top to lead 21-20 after the first 10 minutes of play.Â
SU went on a scoring run to start off the second quarter, as Sophie Burrows tallied two three-pointers and a layup, and Izoje followed with two field goals as well. Pittsburgh was unable to make a basket for five minutes and 47 seconds into the quarter. Syracuse extended its lead, as Jasmyn Cooper added two points to the scoreboard, and Darius knocked in another shot from beyond the arc. Pittsburgh would only score two more points to close out the second quarter, with the Orange holding a 43-24 advantage heading into the locker room. Syracuse outscored Pitt 22-4 in the second frame.
The Panthers added more buckets in the third quarter, but the Orange were able to match the pace. Burrows added another three-pointer, her fourth of the night, and Izoje blocked two shots. Potts hit a shot from beyond the arc in the final seconds of the third quarter, pushing the Orange over the Panthers 68-38 with 10 minutes left to play.Â
Potts opened the final quarter by scoring two three-pointers back-to-back. Camdyn Nelson added a jumper from the paint before Potts struck again with a fastbreak layup. The guard put in another bucket from beyond the arc to force the Panthers to call a timeout halfway through the fourth quarter, as they trailed by 36 points. Angelica Velez and Nelson each scored to round out the game 84-51, to extends 'Cuse's win streak over Pittsburgh.
