Coach Boeheim Quotes
Head Coach Jim Boeheim Quotes
Syracuse vs. Binghamton
November 18, 2001 – Carrier Dome
"When Preston (Shumpert) shoots like that it's hard to play against us. When you look at the beginning of the game, I thought they executed well. I thought they made their shots when we left them open. I think they are a lot better team than I would expect at this stage of going Division I. The way we shot the ball today it might not have looked like that. We were quick to the ball today. We forced a lot of turnovers. We moved the ball well offensively. We just shot the ball extremely well today. We didn't rebound inside as well as we're going to need to, and that is something we need to keep working on. We've got a lot to do. We have two great games this week that will help us get tested against Top 15 competition. It will be good for us, especially for the younger players."
On Hakim Warrick's play: "He got a couple of rebounds early and was active in the first part of the game. He did some nice things."
On why Syracuse is interested in playing a team like Binghamton:
"We're going to play four or five teams here that we're going to give a guarantee to and I'd much rather give it to a Binghamton or Buffalo, a team in New York State close by. I think it helps their program. They've told me that it helps their program to play us in their recruiting. We can either do that or bring somebody in from North Carolina or Texas. I think we're doing a much better service to basketball overall and New York State to play New York State teams. I'm happy playing teams from up here."
On NCAA's attempt to limit physical play inside:
"This game is a good example because they called it. When the referees call it, it is eliminated. Guys post up and use their elbows to get position and the referees called it. It cleans it up pretty good. I don't think the wide lane is the answer. I haven't noticed any difference at all. I wouldn't be concerned one way or another on the lane."
On Ethan Cole:
"He struggled getting up and down the court against a smaller team. Today he was productive on the boards and that is something he has got to do when he is in the game."
On playing in the Preseason NIT semifinals and championship or consolation games:
"We're going to play two very good teams. We're going to learn more about our team against competition."
On Binghamton program:
"I think they're doing a good job. I think they have some very young players who are good and talented. It's just a step up. When you come and see a guy like Preston (Shumpert), there's no way to get ready for that. I thought they played pretty well. Thy made some shots, they've got some guys who can shoot and handle the ball. We just got some defensive pressure on them and forced them into some tough situations."
