Steve Bush will move to the offensive side of the ball to coach the quarterbacks after serving as the defensive backs coach in his first year on the SU staff. Bush, who was the team captain at Southern Connecticut University during Paul Pasqualoni?s coaching tenure at the school, still holds the Southern Connecticut record for interceptions in one game with four.
Bush came to Syracuse after serving as the head football coach at Manalapan (NJ) High School from 1993-2000. He was the head football coach and assistant lacrosse coach at Longmeadow (MA) High School (1990-93).
Ties to the NFL Bush, who lettered in football for then-SCSU head coach Kevin Gilbride and Pasqualoni, has collegiate coaching experience at Boston University (1987-90), the University of New Haven (1986-87), Springfield College (1984-86) and Southern Connecticut (1982-84). Bush worked as the secondary coach for Gilbride, currently the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers current staff, at Southern Connecticut.
In 1981 Bush was the team captain for SCSU when Pasqualoni was an assistant coach at the school. At New Haven and Boston University, Bush was the defensive coordinator for Chris Palmer, the former head coach of the NFL?s Cleveland Browns. In addition to his duties as defensive coordinator, he coached linebackers at New Haven and the secondary at Boston University.
A native of Denville, NJ, Bush earned his undergraduate and Master?s degrees at Southern Connecticut
Bush and his wife, Maria, have four children, Kacey, Kevin, Leah and Shane. Bush played high school football for his father, Harry Bush, who retired in 1999 after 50 years of coaching.
